The Arrival

The Birth of Venus, IV
Two entwined, winged beings
blow both hard and gentle,
as she, born from the
severed genitals of Uranus
stands on a conch shell
in the midst of wind, sea and earth.

Venus, with tilted head,
welcomed by a cloud of Florentine roses,
accepts the yellow daisies
and blue cornflowers distributed by Spring,
becoming the final synthesis of harmony
as she dons her purple cloak.
